Gherkin

I wanted to let you all know that Evan and I are expecting! Right now we are just calling the baby “Baby Gherkin” (Baby Pickle) as we do not know the Gender and do not agree on any names. The Due date is Jan. 9, 2009, so we still have a long way to go. My mom and sister are going to throw a baby shower in Brigham City on Friday September 5th (I know the Friday of Peach Days, but it was the only time we could fit it into my trip there.) It will be an open house so you can come and go as you please. I would love to see as many people as can make it! (If I can’t see you then let me know what works better for you as I will be in Utah from Aug 30 to Sept. 6th and would love to meet up. ) I also need mailing addresses; if you have a lot of current addresses or can just send your own I would really appreciate it! Please send them to mckellcosta@hotmail.com . I hope to see you all in Brigham City!

It's A Girl!!!

Just an update on our little one. Jason and I recently went in for an ultrasound and found out we are having a little girl. We are both really excited. Either way we would have been, but it is just fun to finally find out. She is just perfect and beautiful. This picture isn't the best. Jason took the clearer one to work to show off and put on his desk. It has been so much fun to experience the little movements she makes as she gets stronger. Jason finally got to feel it for the first time on Father's Day. She obviously wanted to give him something special.

Jason's family is really into football and even though Jason had dreamed of his own football team, he is still really happy. For Father's Day I ended up giving him a Broncos shirt that had DAD on the back for the name and a big #1. Then I bought a little onesie and embroidered BRONCOS in blue and orange. Jason was thrilled to know that even though it wasn't a boy, he could still have his little football fan alongside him.

Well, hope everyone is doing well. Take care!

Love, Andrea

Happy late Mother's Day!

I was just thinking today, how awesome it is being a Mom. I am so grateful to my Heavenly Father for bringing such a wonderful blessing into my life. I can't even begin to describe the feelings I have had these past six weeks. I knew that being a Mom would be special but I never thought in a million years that it would be one of the greatest experiences in my life. This is a little late but I just want to wish all you great women, a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY (this is for all women, not just moms)!!! Love, Savanna

Introducing... Brooklyn Mae Watkins

Hello!

Well I guess that this post is long overdue! Brooklyn Mae Watkins was born on April 29, 2008 in Mesa Arizona! She was 9lbs. 8ozs. and 21 and 1/2 inches long! She sure is beautiful and a very sweet baby as well!

It was alot of effort to get her here, she was transverse and so the doctor tried to do a bunch of things to manipulate her position, nothing seemed to be working though! Because she was transverse she would not drop at all, so I was dialated to a 3 and 75% effaced for almost 3 weeks. My doctor is a very traditional and conservative guy and so he did not want to start anything early, his philosophy is, is that if you can let things work out naturally then it is so much better for the infant and mom. Well I completley agreed with him, until it seemed that nothing was going to happen naturally. :) Finally, on Monday April 28 I was getting up to go get ready for bed and my water broke! We were so excited! We went to the hospital and then waited and waited and waited. The contractions came but after 12 hours I was not dialating anymore and the poor baby still would not drop and still was the wrong way. So they started me on potossim(sp?) and said ok well you are going to be here another 12-14 hours!!! So we just waited and waited. I did get an epidural but becuase my labor was so long the silly thing ran out about 3 hours before she was born! Finally things had progressed enough to start pushing, and I had a great nurse who somehow got this little girl to turn around! Well then she came fast! The nurse barely could get the doctor fast enough!(I think he almost did not even believe her considering the way things had been going!) So our little Brooklyn was born at 7:56pm after 22 hours of labor! It kind of sounds like it wasn't that much fun, but we had a great nursing staff and Ryan and my mom helped me keep my mind off everything so it was actually a really nice experience. We feel so blessed that she is here, and that all went smoothly! I just can't believe she is 2 weeks old!! I hope everyone is doing well! Congratulations, Savanna on your new little one, and Congratualtions to Andrea on such wonderful news! Have a wonderful day!
Take care,
Holly and Brooklyn:)

And then there were 3!

Hey Everyone,
Masen Reed Hancey arrived April 25th. He weighed 8 lbs. 1 oz., 19.5 inches long. The doctor started me 2 weeks early because I had high blood pressure. I ended up having a c-section. Allen and I are glad to have him in our lives. We are working on making the adjustment from 2 to 3.

Miracles In My Life

I just wanted to post an expression of my gratitude for everyday miracles in my life. First off, I better just come out with the big news. I figured it was about time for me to contribute to the baby frenzy. Jason and I are expecting a little one October 30th. Many of you were probably wondering when it was finally going to happen. We are coming up on four years being married and have numerously had to answer the torturous question of “So, why don’t you have kids?” I guess we can finally be rid of that in our lives.

Just to explain a little of our background, we had been trying for quite some time to get pregnant and were successful three times, but all ending in an early miscarriages. We sought out medical explanation, but they couldn’t figure it out for quite some time. We finally had a lot of blood work done and found out that I was at a very high risk for blood clots. So, this increased my chances of miscarriage significantly. They told me that if I ever wanted to stay pregnant I would have to test very early on and get into the doctor as soon as possible. So, month after month we waited and nothing. We were getting quite frustrated and one day decided that it was going to happen on the Lord’s time and there was no reason for us to force the issue. And you guess it, just the next month we found out I was pregnant. This being a miracle that we weren’t sure could ever happen.

I have been watched over very carefully by my wonderful doctor (another miracle that we found him). He is just perfect for our circumstances. We had some difficulties at first with a lot of bleeding and cramping, but a very inspired priesthood blessing was offered and comfort was given. Everything was looking good and we were finally letting it sink in. Until, my second run of blood work came back. They immediately filled a prescription for me for injections to thin my blood. I was terrified of the idea of sticking myself with a needle everyday. We had prepared ourselves for this because we were told that with my condition it may be the only way to remain pregnant and alive, but I still didn’t want to face it.

Luckily, it has been tolerable but my belly looks like a battle ground. Jason has been so kind and comforting when giving the injections. I think he may even enjoy it a little too much. How many husbands are given permission to “bruise” their wife?? Well, we have really learned so much from this experience and I am sure we will be learning much more. I am so appreciative of the Lord’s guidance in my life. He has been a steady hand for me throughout it all.

Sorry about the novel and I don’t mean to write a pity post, but I just wanted to give the details of a grateful heart and a few miracles.

Take care everyone and I will keep you posted.

Love, Andrea

New Blog

Hey Everyone, I hope all of you are doing great! I have been feeling great lately, yeah! Although I have been really tired lately. I feel like it is because I have had lots of processed foods - white bread, white rice, biscuits, quick breads (my weakness); I just love that stuff too much. I still say for everyone to eat it and I am not a health expert, I just know that my body is so weird sometimes and can be really sensitive to foods, weird I know. By the way Heather, when you were talking about food trends, I have noticed that also. Sometimes I feel guilty for not eating as "healthy" as I should, but I also know that you have to enjoy life; how can you live without yummy treats!!!

I hope all of you are doing great. Holly and Savanna - time is close, yeah!!! Good Luck!! Send lots of pictures. April 11 is when I get to find out the gender of our baby - I will definantly let all of you know!

Also, I have also started a Blog if any of you want to have more detail of my overly excited life?! http://justinandjanae.blogspot.com/

Take Care Everyone!

PARK DAYS!

Ok for all of you that are still in Brigham City I am wanting to do a park day once a week during the summer where we can all meet and just let the kids play. I thought we would do a diffrent park each week, and meet in that same day every week. We could do lunch or just meet there and let the kids play. I know my kids bring food to the park just means they will eat it later. I just thought it would be nice to get together, and catch up. So I need all your imput, and then I can get it all put together.
To all of you out of Brigham City I hope you all come back and visit soon, and I will post the schedule, and if you plan on coming to town if ya give heads up I am sure we can switch around the schedule.
So let me know, and you can come even if you don't have kids yet , and that includes the expecting parents too!

~Heather i am so glad you made it home ok, and I hope you are feeling better now! Also your easter picture is just to cute, and that little man is growing way to fast! Take care out there!

Easter Pictures

Well, here is our Easter picture for this year! I must say it's a lot more flattering than last year's. (I gave birth five days after Easter last year) I want to see some updated pictures from everyone!

Becoming Jane

I started this post before I left for Utah and before I got sick and I'm finally going to finish it....
We had the funnest girls night two weeks ago! Do all you Brigham Girls remember our Pride and Prejudice parties? Well this was even better! We had a English Tea Party and watched "Becoming Jane". My darling friend Allie had this awesome idea to have a movie night and have a traditional English tea(all except the tea of course). I must say that it beat out our old Jane Austen parties by virtue of the fact that we all have gotten to be much better cooks in our latter years. We had scones with (fake) clotted cream and lemon curd, cucumber sandwiches, cranberry white chocolate scones, brie melts, cookies and an English trifle that I made with homemade lady fingers. It was such a delightful evening. There is something so refreshing about spending time watching a good movie with great friends who share your enthusiasm for Austen all while eating delicacies off of china dishes and tea cups! Simply Charming! I only wish you all could have been there!

Diet Trends?

So I don't know about you girls, but it seems like every ward I've been in has a different diet trend. Right now it seems like everyone around here is "going vegitarian"! I almost feel guilty for not jumping on the bandwagon.
I talked to Jared about his views on it and he basically told me not to try to make him a vegitarian. He likes his meat. :) Does anyone else know what I mean?

Kids say the darndest things!

So I wanted to start writing down some of the funny, cute things that some of my students have said about my pregnancy. I thought that I would share them with you to brighten your day!
-After we had been using balloons in a lesson a little boy said, "Oh I get it, Mrs. Watkins, your stomach is like a balloon and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger and when the baby comes it will just POP!"
-A little girl came up to me with a very sad face; Me:"Whats wrong?" Girl " I just think that you just might love your baby in your tummy more than you love us, your real kids!"
- "Mrs. Watkins maybe when I am big I will marry your little girl!"
-"Mrs. Watkins when we came to 2nd grade you were just an old kid, now you are mommy, that means you are all grown up!"
-After I had accidentally bumped a student with my tummy she said, "It is ok, your baby just wanted to give me a hug!"
-"Mrs. Watkins can't race us anymore becuase she is fat and her tummy will make her fall over!"
-"Mrs. Watkins, I think after you have your baby you should make your husband baby-sit it. Becuase we need you more here at school and we don't want a substitute!"
-"Mrs. Watkins your legs are starting to disappear when you sit down!"
-"Mrs. Watkins I think your baby is going to be super smart because everyday she is learning what 2nd graders learn, and that is ALOT of hard stuff!"
-I had a little boy with Asperger's syndrome last year and when I told him I was going to have a baby, he said, "Boy I just make all of my teachers have babies!" His first grade teacher had a baby the year after he left as well! Then he said, "I am an Uncle now!"
-Names that have been suggested: Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus, Sunshine, Susie, Holly Jr., Shanelle, Dulcita, Juana, Maria, Pocahontas, Ariel, Springy, Molly, (so our names rhyme!) Beauty, Daisy, Rose, everyday there is another one!
-"Mrs. Watkins what do want your baby to be Mexican or American?"
-"Mrs. Watkins, can I baby-sit your baby? I will be very careful! I will even take her to the park and let her ride in my basket on my bike! I will push her on the swing so she goes very high! I will let her have chocolates too! Well, maybe just chocolate milk since she is just a baby!"
-"Mrs.Watkins everyday you get more and more glowy!"
-Some of the girls at Recess were playing school. They were taking turns being the teacher and when they were the teacher they would place there jacket up thier shirt so they could look like me!
-For Valentines Day the baby recieved, 5 used stuffed bears, a marker(that smells), many drawings, many chocolates and a naked Barbie doll!
These kids are so cute and funny! I need to be better about writing down all the funny and cute things, I just always forget!
As you can tell I teach in an area that is highly Hispanic. Out of 30 kids 24 have Spanish as their first language!
As far as the pregnancy, things are going well! I am trying to keep my energy up for these cute kids at school, but everyday it gets a little bit more difficult. I just found out that I am enemic as well so that has made me very tired! I am trying hard to eat all the red meat and leafy greens that I can find! So hopefully that helps! We still have not decided on a name, but we have narrowed it down to 2, so we will see what she looks like!
Take Care! Have a wonderful day!
